In 1883, investors created the Jacksonville and Atlantic Railroad. In 1898, the Spanish-American war broke out and soldiers came to Pablo Beach to train.

Neptune Beach is also one of the more historic of the beaches, starting with its name. Its name was the doing of a resident, Dan G. Wheeler. After he would take the Florida East Coast Railway home from work and then walk a considerable distance to his home, he created his own railway and called it Neptune. Neptune became its own municipality in 1931 after a tax revolt. After this, more Jacksonville Beaches properties started popping up and the population grew to what is now just over 7,000 citizens.
